Apply for residence permitsWho need a residence permit? If you enter China with a long-term visa (including Visa categories D, J1, Q1, S1, X1 and Z) you need to apply for a residence permit. When? You should apply for the residence permit within 30 days from the date of entry. It is also subject to the deadline on your visa. How long is the validity period? The validity period of a foreigner's work-type residence permit shall be 90 days at the minimum and five years at the maximum; and the validity period of a non-work-type foreigner’s residence permit shall be 180 days at the minimum and five years at the maximum. Those who apply for the renew of the expiry of residence shall, within 30 days prior to the expiry of the residence permits, file the applications. Upon examination, if an application is denied, the applicant shall leave China before the expiry of the residence permit. Where to apply?
