As the old Chinese sayings go, “ hunger breeds discontentment. ” and “There’s nothing but good eats in Guangzhou.” . Since Guangzhou has always been an important port city for commerce with its unique geographical advantages from ancient China, the unique Cantonese food has been well-known all over the world with the prolong history of China and the world. The Cantonese pastries is the very special part of the Cantonese food. It is well-made, rich in taste, suitable for all ages, and is very popular.









On October 16th 2021 , the foreign experts and their families in Guangzhou, which are from America, Russia, Japan, Singapore, and other countries, enjoyed themselves great in the event “Tasty Guangzhou: DIY Traditional Cantonese Pastries”, experienced making traditional Cantonese pastries.

By making traditional Cantonese pastries themselves, the friends of the "Home of Foreign Experts in Guangzhou" experience the happiness and the unique food culture of Guangzhou. It was the very precious experience for them to enjoy a unique tranquility with their families and friends apart from their daily works.






Everyone is eager to be a chef





The Chef demonstrated the procedures of how to make red bean pastry


Red bean symbolizes the friendship and love in Chinese culture. Red bean pastry is a kind of Cantonese pastries with the meaning of happiness, which is filled with red bean paste and wrapped in Chinese style meringue.

Mung bean cake has a lovely look and is very refreshing and delicious. And the cake’s Chinese word "糕" has the same pronunciation “Gao” with the word “高”, which means positive and blessings.

The foreign experts said that this event allowed them to experience the core of "There’s nothing but good eats in Guangzhou" and to meet more new friends.

Elina, a devoted fan of Chinese cuisine from Russia, was attracted by the delicious taste and lovely shape of the pastries, hoping to make these at home.Sunao Takeshita is a “veteran cook”. In his spare time, he is keen to make Japanese food for his family and friends. This experience made him feel the unique charm of Cantonese pastries. For the others who are making and tasting Cantonese-style pastries for the first time, the delicious and good looking pastries gave them the good memories of traditional Cantonese food.

This event was hosted by the Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province and the Guangzhou Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, organized by Guangzhou Association of International Exchange of Personnel, co-organized by Chinese Humanist Association of Guangdong and Guangzhou Dishuifang Veggie Restaurant.
